The fifth edition of the festival featured around thirty discussions and cultural events, all emphasizing the importance of a society-wide reckoning with the past. It highlighted the vital need to understand our roots—only by being firmly grounded in them can we face the challenges of the present.
Under the motto Stand Out, we honoured the legacy of remarkable figures from our history—such as the “father of genetics” and Brno abbot Gregor Johann Mendel, the martyred nun Maria Restituta, the logician and friend of Albert Einstein Kurt Gödel, and the great European writer Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach.
Festival president, Hussite pastor Martina Viktorie Kopecká, hosted a series of discussion events featuring a wide range of inspiring contemporary voices. Audiences were also introduced to significant current projects that help preserve the memory of the city and region.
A highlight of the festival was an excursion to the former factory site in Brněnec, where the Schindler’s Ark Memorial—dedicated to the Shoah and the Löw-Beer textile legacy—is now taking shape.
