Humor Without Laughter

This exhibition, whose title refers to the column in the magazine Dikobraz, introduces visitors to the anti-Semitic cartoons that appeared in Czechoslovak and Soviet press between 1948 and 1989. These cartoons were used as a tool of propaganda, aiming to shape public opinion and spread hostile attitudes during the Cold War.

Stereotypes and prejudices against the Jewish minority follow recurring patterns in history, manifesting across different periods. Visitors will also be introduced to recent examples of anti-Semitic visual expressions that continue to appear in public spaces and media.

The exhibition will be guided by curator Jana Černá.

The event will be held only in Czech. Exhibition labels are available in both Czech and English.

This event is organized in collaboration with the Museum of Brno and Löw-Beer Villa.
