Ordinance of 30 May 1945: Site of memory
The exhibition runs from 22. 7. to 19. 8. 2022.
The garden of the Staré Brno monastery was the place where on 30 May 1945 German-speaking old men and women with children were ordered to hand in all their valuables and were then “led out” of Brno on the basis of an ordinance issued that same day by the National Committee for the Greater Brno. An installation of images and video in the cloister presents this little-known historic document to the public in an unusual way. Here and in the concurrent exhibition at the Löw-Beer Villa, the author Jaroslav Anděl draws inspiration from Pierre Nora’s concept of a “site of memory”.
