Winterberg’s journeys in Brno – a literary walk with Jaroslav Rudiš
What happens when a 99-year-old Berlin tram driver, born in 1918 in Liberec (Reichenberg), embarks on a journey to Sarajevo armed with a 1913 guidebook? An absurd trip through the old Europe, where the disappeared is more real than the present.
With Winterbergs letzte Reise (Winterberg’s Last Journey), Jaroslav Rudiš has erected a tragi-comic monument to the history of Central Europe, in which Brno too has its place. Our festival’s literary walk will offer a unique opportunity to see the city through the eyes of the novel’s eponymous hero – as well as those of its author. Jaroslav Rudiš will read for the first time from the Czech translation of the novel – a work in progress – tell stories and answer your questions.
The walk starts at the park in Moravské náměstí at 17:00 and takes us through several places in the city centre.
Jaroslav Rudiš – a novelist, playwright and comic book writer. His books have been translated into ten languages and he has won several awards including the prestigious Preis der Literaturhäuser.
